AN INTERVIEW WITH KAEYRA
Kaeyra the day she sang the National Anthem at the White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins baseball game| June, 2018
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Who is Kaeyra?
KAEYRA: Kæyra is a young Chicago-based singer who is constantly working on something new. Her love for music originated when her mom opened a music school and KÆYRA spent the majority of her time surrounded by music. As she grew up, music became a part of her everyday life and continues to be her first priority.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: How did you begin your journey with music?
KAEYRA: I began my journey with music by constantly being in my mom’s music school. Seeing other people fall in love with music intrigued me and I wanted to explore my passion in music and start creating right away.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Kaeyra is your stage name. Why did you choose this name?
KAEYRA: I chose this name because when I was younger people used to call me KÆYRA all the time. I also really like the way it sounds because it gives me sassy and confident vibes which I am all about!
ARTIST’S HOUSE: What does being an artist mean to you?
KAEYRA: Being an artist is a huge responsibility to me. As my career starts to expand and my fan base is growing…I start seeing many younger kids looking up to me. I think generally, our society idolizes artists and looks up to them. Being an artist, I want to set a good example that younger kids can look up to and hopefully become inspired.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: If you could choose again, would you do it all over again, or would you choose another profession?
KAEYRA: I would definitely do it again. When people ask me what other path I would take, the answer is always...”I don’t know”. I truly don’t know what else I would do with my life. Music is what I live for. I couldn’t imagine doing something else for a living.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Who is your favorite artist and why?
KAEYRA: My favorite artist is Alicia Keys. I look up to Alicia Keys for many different reasons. First of all, she is extremely talented and has an amazing gift. But not only that, she is someone who is confident and knows exactly what she wants. She always stands up for what she believes in which is very inspiring to me. I have so many artists I look up to though…Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston-- so much to learn from all those people and more!
ARTIST’S HOUSE: If you could choose one person to sing with you on the stage, who would it be?
KAEYRA: I think I would have to go with Alicia Keys again for this one. I think being able to experience something like that would teach me so much and definitely inspire me to keep creating.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Imagine you are standing on the biggest stage in the USA. How would you feel?
KAEYRA: I would feel so lucky. I mean, that is one of my biggest dreams. The fact that so many people came to see me would be a mind blowing experience.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Your biggest dream?
KAEYRA: I have many dreams because I am a strong believer in setting goals and having them written out to constantly remind you what you are striving for. And my #1 goal is to make music to INSPIRE. I think people underestimate the power that music truly has. Music can truly help people through very difficult times. So I want to make music to help people and inspire them.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: You sang with many famous Polish and American artists. With whom did you feel the most comfortable with?
KAEYRA: I am very honored and blessed that I got to perform with some of the biggest names in Poland. But I think my favorite moment was with Andrzej Piaseczny. We sang a beautiful duet and the reason why it was so special was because there was great chemistry between us that I will never forget. Every word flowed and felt magical. I also had an incredible time performing with the very famous polish band - Dzem. That moment was a very eye opening experience for me and I was able to learn so many amazing things from that opportunity. The last one is PostModern Jukebox with Scott Bradlee. This band has opened so many doors for me and gave me so many amazing opportunities for my career! Forever thankful!
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Your most joyful memory?
KAEYRA: My most joyful memory is when a lady came up to me after a show telling me her story of how she got diagnosed with cancer and explaining that the thing that helps her the most is listening to my music. This is exactly what I strive for, and I will never forget that moment.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Your album Fountains of Gold was a huge success. Tell us about the creative process. What do the songs mean to you, to your fans?
KAEYRA: Fountains Of Gold was written after I went through a very difficult time in my career. I was extremely lost and my motivation for music was diminishing. I experienced pain and loss and didn’t know what to do with myself. One day, I opened my eyes and decided that I can’t sit around and wait for time to pass by. I wrote the whole album with Artur Wnorowski, and Daniel Jonak in about two months. It came together so quickly that even I was shocked! I was so happy to have something out and finally show people my original music.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Your parents play the most important role in your life. What would you like to say to them?
KAEYRA: My parents are such a blessing. They support me like no other. They truly understand my vision and always push me beyond my limits. They believe in me and without their support, I know for a fact I wouldn’t be as far in my career as I am today.
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Your future plans?
KAEYRA: There are so many plans! I have no clue where to start! I am constantly working on new material to release. I go to the studio almost everyday and work long nights creating music that I can hopefully share with the world very soon! I have a few gigs coming up like singing the national anthem at the white sox game (June 27th), I will be a special guest for MASN at Taste Of Chicago (July 13th) and the Festival Of Polonaise (August 12). There are so many other performances and other things I can’t mention yet but I always keep everyone updated on all my socials!
ARTIST’S HOUSE: Favorite food?
KAEYRA: Tacos!! I can eat tacos everyday!
